British, Turkish Paragliders Crash, Rescued With Helicopter

British and a Turkish paragliding pilots who crashed onto a rocky area were rescued with a helicopter in southwestern Turkish province of Mugla on Saturday. Paul Hayvard and Sukan Sahin were flying tandem over Oludeniz near Babadag Mountain in Fethiye district when they encountered turbulence at some 1700 meters. Hayvard and Sahin crashed from some 60 feet onto the rocky and mountainous area shortly after they took off due to contrary wind. The 40-year old Briton sustained several injuries and suffered bleeding after the crash while Sahin, the 29-year old Turkish pilot, survived the accident with slight injuries. The two paragliders were rescued and lifted by a steel rope to the military helicopter belonging to Turkish Air Forces and taken to Fethiye State Hospital for further treatment. Oludeniz is a lagoon near Babadag Mountain in Fethiye district, a world-famous beach resort for paragliding opportunities. Last month, a German paragliding pilot, Karsten Frohlich, also collapsed near the same area and was rescued with a helicopter. Frohlich's ribs were broken with the impact of the crash.

The two boats were recovered and raised by a steel cable in a military helicopter belonging to the Turkish Air Force and the Fethiye State Hospital for further treatment. Oludeniz is a pond near Mount Babadag in the district of Fethiye, a town world famous paragliding opportunities. Last month, a German glider pilot Karsten Fröhlich, also collapsednear the same area and was rescued by a helicopter. Alegre ribs with the impact of the fall was broken.
