"Ephesus" Jgrivetti's photos about Ephesus, Turkey (amplitheater in ephesus)

Preview of Jgrivetti's blog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: www.travelpod.com This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Ephesus, Turkey Entry Title: "Ephesus" Entry: "Today we got up early to catch the ferry from Chios to Turkey. I was surprised by the smooth waters for our journey as the last time I was on a ferry in Mexico from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel we were rocking and rolling it was very very unpleasant! When we arrived in Turkey we met our guide and driver and then we took off for the 2 hour drive to Ephesus. I was very surprised to learn that the west coast area in which we were traveling looked so very similar to what I would see in California. It was discovered that the climate here is very similar to CA and this is why this specific area was well enjoyed by not only tourists but Turkish nationals as vacation areas. I just referred it as the the Hampton's of Turkey! While on our journey we came across some police check points who were interested in who was driving in the area...well we found out why really fast! Apparently the Turkish army was out doing "war games" with several rocket and missile launchers perched upon the grassy fields it was quite impressive. Although we couldn't confirm it I think they got a lil boom boom action because it would be pointless to bring all these folks out here (including high level political officials) and not give them a show of force... After about 2 nice ...

Law and Reality - Turkey

Kurds are frustrated by the slow pace of change in Turkey. Although recent political reforms have granted them more rights, change on the ground remains slow. After centuries of prohibition, Kurdish can now be spoken freely. But many other restrictions remain in place. "It is forbidden to use Kurdish names with 'W' because the letter doesn't exist in the Turkish alphabet," complains Huseyin from the Pro-Kurdish party. Any broadcasts in Kurdish have to be vetted a month in advance and even non-political Kurdish music needs to be approved. "How can you produce news a month in advance? It's impossible," despairs editor Cemal Dogan. There are allegations that Kurdish villages are denied irrigation, forcing families to emigrate to the cities. The days of heavy handed police brutality may be over but a lot more still needs to be done before Kurds feel truly equal.

Real Estate Property Investment Series: Focus Turkey 2007

Turkey is an emerging nation with an incredibly diverse wealth of property related investment opportunity.

Turkey has a very young population driving local demand for real estate which cannot currently be met, it has foreign direct investment growing at record levels pushing up demand for commercial space and also boosting local purchasing power making room for growth in terms of real estate pricing, it has a rapidly expanding tourism industry with almost immeasurable room for further expansion proving that there is demand for short term rental property as well as holiday homes for sale and furthermore the nation is aligning itself politically with both eastern and western governments proving that Turkey in the very near future could become one of the most strategically important nations in the world.

In terms of local demand an investor could enter the property market just focusing on this target group. Half of the nation's population is under the age of 25, most live in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Konya, Bursa, Adana, Antalya and Mersin, property in these cities is in short supply but investment is inward flowing creating jobs which creates further inward migration from the countryside of individuals looking for work and this creates the ultimate environment for an investor where demand is increasing, property units available are not sufficient to meet the demand forcing prices up and the local population is gaining purchasing power from better paying jobs suggesting they can afford real estate price gains and so an investor who buys into the residential property market in 2007 could reap substantial yields and enjoy healthy capital gains.

As stated foreign direct investment is freely flowing into Turkey now that the government has done all it can to attract it and nowhere is the evidence of FDI more obvious than in the property market. Massive investment is coming from Europe and the Middle East into huge residential and commercial projects creating employment and boosting the local economy. FDI is also holding up the travel and tourism industry which is under-funded by the government and which historically has relied heavily on the private sector. Investors are aware that the vast size of Turkey as well as its cultural and geographic diversity means that it can expand its tourism market multiple times. Currently it only really has a summer holiday market but efforts are in place to push Turkey as a business travel destination, a winter holiday hotspot and a cultural, eco and adventure tourism destination as well.

Already tourism numbers are growing annually and many of these holidaymakers are also buying properties along the coast in Turkey creating a multi layered market for an investor to look at from short term high yield rentals to the construction of properties for the retirement or second home market funded by affluent Europeans.

The final factor pushing up the appeal of Turkish property as an investment commodity is the fact that politically Turkey is developing stronger and stronger international relations. On the one hand Turkey is moving closer to EU entry and to that end the Turkish authorities have certainly done and are continuing to do all they can to align policies and decisions with those acceptable to the EU, and if EU entry comes then inward investment will soar even further. On the other hand Turkey already has an excellent standing with NATO, it already has good export levels in place with Europe and now it is positively aligning more and more with nations to the east of its borders.

In 2006 Turkey and the United Arab Emirates cemented political and economic friendship ties and Turkey remains an ally of many countries in Asia, it is a Muslim country without any shadow of fundamentalism hanging over it meaning it is a friend of Western countries from the US to the UK and as it shares cultural and religious understanding with many Asian and Arabic nations it is also a friend of countries to the east of it meaning it is incredibly well placed strategically for acting as a bridge between eastern and western understanding.

As you can see, all factors point favourably to the ongoing desirability of Turkey as a place to live, holiday, work, do business and invest and therefore 2007 is likely to be a significant year in terms of the levels of investment into property by international investors.

The also have screens and you can watch movies (in turkish) or play games and they also serve refreshments. We signed up for a Ulusoy card which gives you discount of 20% every time you travel. Since we will be using public transport this will be a saving. Apparently this busline also travels through Europe - is connected with Lufthansa. We arrived in Eceabat and found our accomodation which we had booked over phone. Where we booked (at TJ's) and where we ended staying - The Boss were two different places with differing standards of accommodation and service. We were told that because of business with ANZAC Day etc. that TJ's had sublet the other hotel rooms. The reality was TJ had booked all the Media personnel into his motel but still wanted more patrons. We were shown to a tiny room with 6 bunks on the 5th floor - walk up, no air cond. no sheets, not like the pictures we had seen on the internet and thought we were getting - Daniel and Paul couldn't stand up the roof ...

Sexy New Travel and Adventure Novel Set In Turkey

"Complicated Favors: A Turkish Affair" -- A Cracking-Good Read

First-Time Travel Adventure-Writer Delivers

First-time author Jeanne Reeder's heroine is a forensic psychologist (and part time CIA operative) named Charly. As her name suggests, Charly is a thoroughly modern Western woman -- equipped mentally and physically to meet whatever life offers up, and then some. Raised in Alaska by a frontiersman-like father who taught survival as a matter of course, Charly learned to run, jump and shoot like a green beret at an early age. And it's a good thing too, because climactic events of this novel demand every bit of her rough-and-ready background.

As the novel opens, Charly (now an attractive, full-blooded widow-of-a-certain-age) and her elderly female companion, Frances, are revisiting Turkey to relive old times, enjoy new ones -- and incidentally, as at first seems, to deliver a package. Delivery of that package (with its secretly encoded map-coordinates between tracks of an ethnic-Kurdish music CD) ultimately involves Charly in intrigue and terrorism (and romance) -- in a hell-bent-for-leather story that starts fast and never lets up.

Insofar as intrigue and terrorism are concerned, Ms. Reeder's story rings true -- seeming to jump off the pages of this week's mainstream Turkish newspapers. For, at this level, Complicated Favors (CF) is a tale of Turkey's continuing struggle against PKK terrorists -- which leads our heroine inevitably and relentlessly from balmy autumn venues in Western Turkey to the snowy wilds of the Sat-Clio Mountains on Iran's border in the Turkish far east.

Out there in the hinterlands, Charly's physical and mental skills are tested to their limits -- and she is even called upon, as an equal member of a multi-cultural anti-terrorist combat team, to kill PKK terrorists. But while the author never leaves the reader in doubt about the PKK's vicious terrorist reality, she also lends a sympathetic ear to the tribulations of ordinary Kurdish-Turks -- and to their understandable desire to celebrate their heritage.

CF is not all 'blood and guts' action, though. Ms. Reeder's deft inclusion of Turkey's naturally lusty Romantic Ambiance (as a third, intangible main character) is also notable. That inclusion makes CF a thoroughly sexy (though never prurient) novel too -- as it follows the developing romance between Charly and Hakan, her Turkish counterpart and mission-buddy. And, when American flesh meets Turkish flesh, well, let's just say that...

The 'Frikik' Queen of Turkey - Bailed Out By Celebrity Friends

Hülya Avsar revealed some seasonal cellulite, but got 'bailed out' by friends...

Starting with Gözcü Gazetesi on March 27th, the mainstream Turkish newspapers had a field day reporting "Hülya Avsar's First Frikik" (which has become an Annual Rite of Spring) at a recent exhibition tennis match. Following Gözcü, came Takvim Gazetesi -- whose reporters consulted no less than five of Turkey's top female celebrities before presenting its own 2-part perspective, the very next day.

Takvim's front page teaser-headline blared, "She's got the courage to display reality!"
Its sub-text admired, "Hülya Avsar didn't hide her cellulite -- and she's received complete support from peers for her bravery. Hülya Hanim has broken a taboo by openly displaying her cellulite, which is every woman's worst nightmare."

The praise continued in the newspaper's 'Page-Two Special' with its large caps headline announcing "Support for Hülya Avsar!"

Beneath the headline we learned that camera photos (taken at a TED Club tennis exhibition match in Istanbul) revealed Hülya Avsar's cellulite problem -- and it caused quite a public stir. Super-Model Deniz Akkaya (appearing on the Magazin Mahkeme TV Program) had commented snidely upon seeing the cellulite photos. "Time is merciless," she had simpered. And, at that point, 4 other female celebrities jumped to Hülya Hanim's defense.

The 4 big-name Turkish Celebs had this to say:

Sibel Can (Actress, Singer, Dancer): Nothing can besmirch a name as famous as 'Hülya Avsar'. And anyway, what's the big deal? She doesn't make her living as a figure model. She's had a remarkable career these past 25 years and she's still at the top of the heap. There aren't many who can say that.

Ebru Salli (Model, Spokesperson): No matter what anyone says, Hülya Avsar is a very beautiful woman. I'm sure she'll fix the cellulite problem with sports activity in a very short time. Cellulite is every woman's misery.

Ipek Tuzcuoglu (Actress): Hülya Avsar has been photographed from every possible angle for years -- because she's in show business. She doesn't consider these cellulite pictures to be earth-shattering. And, that's a demonstration of her self-confidence.

Seren Serengil (Singer): The lighting may have been to blame. Photos taken when the sun is high, turn our differently than when it's low. I saw Hülya a week ago at a swimming pool --- and her body is far superior to many 20-year-old girls.

Property Turkey - Advantages and Disadvantages!

market value of Turkey is booming. Also in the UK and elsewhere, to discover a country that has not yet taken into account. The economy, once in a crisis, once again a remarkable degree. Now that the country is ready for the European Union where you can spend a good time to read the property in Turkey, the advantages and disadvantages.

For the British the opportunity to invest in property in Turkey, one ofThe most active is the fact that the country is almost certainly a part of Europe in the near future.

The EU is a strong alliance between the States in a way that commands respect around the world. The euro is the currency in most EU countries is very strong. If the adoption of the euro, Turkey, remains to be seen though.

What we can say is that Turkey in the EU, the country is more stable and reliable, and take responsibility, which means that theirOn investment, but never really in danger, it is much better and safer than a complete system.

One of the most obvious is to consider the negative points that has to do with people in a country that probably does not understand a word of the language. This can be a frightening prospect to consider, but there are many today in the English-turkish property market and the people of Great Britain, working conditions are now on the market.

Another advantage is thatThere is a growing number of British nationals in Turkey. If you buy a property as property that could be taken into account, and for this reason, a number of communities of British expatriates living and dynamic in all popular locations. Of course, it is best to learn the language in which you live, but what kind, if the situation requires a small pillow.

It can be a boon for some, but perhaps not for others, and although limited impact onthe real estate market is the fact that there are no restrictions on the use and sale of alcohol in Turkey. This means that the right to open a bottle of champagne to celebrate the purchase of property in Turkey, in due course.

Turkey is a Muslim country, but not in the fundamental sense. They keep their religion and politics very much the same way that Spain as a separate Catholic country, but does not define Catholicism as the countryexcluded. Religion is important for the country, but also a way of life for people in a way that was lost in the UK today.

Plus and minus points to look at another, and can help you make decisions quickly, which is the ability to increase the value of the rate of Turkey, 12.5% and 25%. This means an increase in the cost of initial purchase, but also that once the value of your investment will continue to increasethis rate. turkish property is hot right now. And 'certainly the time to put one foot in the door!

Mortgages in Turkey

With its beautiful scenery, warm climate and historical context, Turkey has long been a popular tourist destination. So popular, in fact, that many visitors have asked to buy a property. Until recently, however, if you were a resident, so you can buy a property in Turkey, if you paid in cash. But with the recent changes in legislation by rising inflation, you can now choose between a mortgage turkish and dreams of living in the sun"Reality.

Since this is a new introduction to this part of the world, however, some changes to the mortgage system, which happens often, so it's a good idea to contact your financial adviser or mortgage broker before checking in this adventure.

For example, if the mortgage may, for the first time in force, only a fixed rate mortgage has advantages and disadvantages of this type of loan with them. In February this yearBut a new law passed, was a mortgage turkish can be changeable or variable, too.

The responsibility for the problems after the delivery of the goods has changed. Before the new law, if there are gaps or problems with the house there is a limit to the amount of time that a new owner of the bank or mortgage provider may be entitled to all problems. But it must be a single year is limited.

Taxation has also beenMortgage changed in Turkey. Prior to encourage potential buyers, the turkish government has allowed people to claim ownership of a mortgage or tax breaks. But now, higher interest rates, which has been withdrawn. Although lower interest rates for an extended period of available credit, which has deterred some buyers, particularly in lower wages or income.

However, when some of these changes and are willing to work with them,Then Turkey offers a fantastic opportunity for those who want to buy a house for himself and for those who use it as an investment. The development cost of living is relatively cheap, turkish mortgage may allow more space in a large part of the world, including the United States or the United Kingdom.

If you are looking for real estate as an investment as a house or a villa, in particular the high rate of tourism in Turkey and one of the areas that couldI want to see is Didim, especially the peoples and Akbuk Altinkum. Located on the east coast, Didim is a wonderful blend of old and new in Turkey and is very popular with tourists today.

Altinkum offers a modern Turkey, but this does not mean you have not received their share of history, but with great beaches and pier is ideal for sunbathing, and many restaurants and night life is a place to live.

Akbukoffers a holiday of parts, and is very popular for its bass fishing. With a beautiful old chapel which is open to the public, Akbuk attracts tourists who just needs to relax, and offers tea and villas as a buying opportunity.

The price of the property itself is very interesting - in Akbuk, for example, an apartment with two bedrooms costs only £ 38 000 and includes a magnificent view over the surrounding hills. Even with four bedroomsApartments in Altinkum is only £ 130,000, including a large number of private swimming pools.

With those prices, and new legislation, it is easier to buy, you can understand why Turkish mortgages are always more than just a possible idea. Add in time, friendly people and the history of this country, it really is a great opportunity.
